Jawbone is that rare thing, a film that retains its magic the more you learn about it. Johnny Harris’s story of former amateur boxer Jimmy McCabe’s descent into alcoholism, homelessness and his attempt to escape these degradations though the sport he loves, is both familiar and alien.
Dotted throughout with intimate insights by Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, director Thomas Napper, trainer Barry McGuigan and others, Jawbone: The Autobiography of a Film merges photography and words, the seen and unseen, the familiar and alien. With its groundbreaking fight scenes, multiple award nominations and Paul Weller soundtrack, Jawbone’s difficult birth and cult status is honoured with this book.

Johnny Harris is an English actor, screenwriter, producer and director best known for his roles in film and television, including Jawbone, The Salisbury Poisonings, Troy: Fall of a City and London to Brighton, the latter being his breakthrough role. Mr Harris received BAFTA and Royal Television Society Award nominations for his performance in the Shane Meadows cult television series This is England '86. He made his debut as a screenwriter in 2017 with the feature film Jawbone in which he starred in the lead role alongside Ray Winstone, Ian McShane and Michael Smiley. Mr Harris also co-produced the movie and received a BAFTA Film Award Nomination in the Outstanding Debut category for his work on the film.
