Vivimarie VanderPoorten teaches at the Dept. of Language Studies, Open University of Sri Lanka and holds an MA and PhD from the University of Ulster, UK. Her first book of poems nothing prepares you won the 2007 Gratiaen Prize, Sri Lanka’s most coveted prize for writing in English. Her two other collections of poetry, Stitch your Eyelids Shut and Borrowed Dust, also won national awards. Her work has also been published in anthologies online and in print in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Malaysia, the UK and the USA. She is also a translator from Sinhala – her mother tongue – to English, her translated work has been published by the Commonwealth Foundation’s Adda. In 2023 she published her first translated work, a book of poems titled Speechless is the River.
The Walking Wounded Series is an erratic beast. Titles will be released in sporadic bursts over the coming years. 53 titles by 53 different authors, in an edition of 53 numbered copies each. Up until 2023, any copies left unsold after 9 months (from date of issue) were ceremonially burned and the ashes scattered into the River Wandle in south London. Now remaining copies suffer one of the following fates: gifted, buried, drowned, burned or intentionally left in public houses or on buses/trains, as the publisher sees fit.
Limited edition, signed chapbooks, all handsewn, embossed and printed at the Sick Tangerine workshop.
