—Cindy Sasha
(founder, Shine Camera Club)

Shine Merton is a charity funded Saturday school run by Kristina Burton for 50 disadvantaged pupils in transition to secondary school. It is a Mitcham school referral programme and students typically spend a year with us with a further opportunity to become Peer Mentors upon graduation. We offer study support, nurture and fun enhanced provision with visits from professional artists, sportsmen and more.

Shine Camera Club was founded by Cindy Sasha. In her own words: "Shine Camera Club throws away the rule book on photography and gives the children the freedom to explore their world through a ‘point and shoot’ analogue camera. They learn how to make mistakes, what makes a good photo and how to look with a photographer’s eye. These children are living in the digital age, but here they learn about the whole process of analogue photography, from putting in a roll of film to visiting a darkroom where the magic happens. We need more active community spaces for marginalised people to thrive and grow."
