Joan Jobe Smith, founding editor of the literary journal PEARL (1974-2017) and the Bukowski Review, worked seven years as a go-go girl before receiving her Master of Fine Arts in Writing at the University of California Irvine. Her poetry, prose memoirs, art and interviews have appeared in more than 1000 publications internationally, including Bête Noire, AMBIT, The Reater, The Morning Star, Culture Matters and The 1999 Forward Prize Anthology. Among her many publications are the literary profile Charles Bukowski: Epic Glottis: His Art, His Women (& me); Tales of An Ancient Go-go Girl (memoir) and the poetry collections Moonglow a Go-Go, The Poetry Business, The North and the Forward Prize longlisted Pow Wow Cafe. She lives in Long Beach, California.
